For advanced signaling over high-loss channels, designs today are using equalization and several new measurement methods to evaluate the performance of the link. Both simulation and measurement tools support equalization and the new measurement methods, but correlation of results throughout the design flow is unclear. In this paper a high performance equalizing serial data link is measured and the performance is compared to that predicted by simulation. Then, the differences between simulation and measurements are discussed as well as methods to correlate the two.

Business users need a simple but powerful way to navigate through data and find the insights to make timely, critical business decisions. Unfortunately, many users have become frustrated at their inability to quickly access and analyze the information they require. This data typically includes a combination of personal and corporate data locked in various enterprise systems. It exists in different formats and can be hard to analyze, change or share — making it difficult for people to get fast answers to business questions.

While spreadsheets are widely used for statistical analysis, they are useful only to a certain point. When used for a task they’re not designed to perform, or for a task beyond the limit of their capabilities, using spreadsheets can be risky. Read this paper to learn about more powerful yet easy-to-use analytics alternatives that may be more suitable.

With so much talk about big data and the possibilities it can offer, the truth behind what big data is—and what it can do for businesses—can be hard to determine. However, according to Dr. Barry Devlin of 9sight Consulting, the truth behind all the talk is not hard to see, provided that organizations are willing to return to the principles of good data management processes. According to Dr. Devlin’s white paper “The Big Data Zoo—Taming the Beasts”, data is still data, whether big or small. It needs to be managed effectively if organizations want to be gain value from it. Although big data may present special challenges for IT organizations, the principles of data management haven’t changed.

For many years, companies have been building data warehouses to analyze business activity and produce insights for decision makers to act on to improve business performance. These traditional analytical systems are often based on a classic pattern where data from multiple operational systems is captured, cleaned, transformed and integrated before loading it into a data warehouse. Typically, a history of business activity is built up over a number of years allowing organizations to use business intelligence (BI) tools to analyze, compare and report on business performance over time. In addition, subsets of this data are often extracted from data warehouses into data marts that have been optimized for more detailed multi-dimensional analysis.

Self-service analytics implies that users design and develop their own reports and do their own data  analysis with minimal support by IT. Most recently, due to the availability of tools, such as those from Qlik,  Spotfire, and Tableau, self-service analytics has become immensely popular. Besides powerful analytical  and visualization capabilities, they all support functionality for accessing and integrating data sources.  With respect to this aspect of data integration four phases can be identified in the relatively short history  of self-service analytics. This whitepaper describes these four phases in detail and shows how the tools  Cisco Data Preparation (CDP) and Cisco Information Server (CIS) for data virtualization can strengthen and  enrich the self-service data integration capabilities of tools for reporting and analytics.

The term “Big Data” has become virtually synonymous with “schema on read” unstructured data analysis and handling techniques like Hadoop. These “schema on read” techniques have been most famously exploited on relatively ephemeral human-readable data like retail trends, twitter sentiment, social network mining, log files, etc.

Implementing and scaling Hadoop to analyze large quantities of data is enormously complicated. Unforeseen, very challenging problems are to be expected. However, if you can learn to recognize the problems before a fire starts, you can prevent your hair (and your Hadoop implementation) from igniting. From the Hadoop experts at Altiscale, here are some of the danger signs and problems you should watch out for, as well as real-world lessons learned for heading them off.

Criminal groups behind today's cyberattacks have become better organized, introducing reconnaissance activity, custom malware, evasion techniques, and other sophisticated tactics that place a burden on traditional security defenses. The litany of high-profile data breaches is impacting every industry and prompting organizations of all sizes to respond by modernizing their IT security infrastructure. The battlefield continues to be at the endpoint, where attackers typically strike to gain initial access to the corporate network. Most organizations have been waging this battle using traditional antivirus at the endpoint, a solution that has received a lot of improvements over its more than 25 years of existence but clearly isn't keeping up with attacker sophistication. Emerging endpoint specialized threat analysis and protection (STAP) products can either replace or complement antivirus by adding behavioral analysis and continuous system and user activity monitoring to identify new and s
