The all-encompassing data center is a thing of the past. Modern data environments are distributed and include remote and branch offices, mobile devices, and the Internet of Things (IoT) as well as cloud solutions such as infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and software as a service (SaaS). There’s more critical data to back up than ever before. Plus, data silos and fragmented management mean poor visibility, which can make it difficult to comply with regional data residency and security rules as well as service-level agreements (SLAs). On-premises data protection has not kept pace. According to a survey by Fujitsu, 45% of IT managers said they had lost data or productivity related to data protection inefficiency within the last year.1 Often, this is because on-premises backups are cumbersome and do not always happen on time.

In this ebook, we dive into how identity management streamlines access to the cloud while protecting corporate data. The location of many resources is changing to the cloud, yet companies still need central management of those resources. Trying to maintain security and order in a chaotic free-for-all use of cloud apps and bring-your-own-device culture is like a black hole sucking in IT’s time—time they could be dedicating to other projects. OneLogin’s cloud identity management platform spans the entire application portfolio with secure single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA), user provisioning, integration with common directory infrastructures such as Active Directory (AD), Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), and various cloud directories, and more. We recommend the following: • IT departments leverage OneLogin for all their identity management needs • IT departments educate users about security and safe sharing • App owners enable Security Assertion M

SaaS has fundamentally changed security requirements. We used to just go into work, and everything—corporate applications, sensitive customer data, employee health records, etc.—was within the “safe” four walls of the corporate network behind a firewall. Now employees work remotely and use mobile devices, including unmanaged, personal devices. They access SaaS apps that live in the cloud without any sort of firewall that IT can use to monitor and manage access. Prominent examples include Salesforce.com, Google Apps, Office 365, Box, and many others. As employees use these SaaS apps, they are creating proprietary company data, often confidential in nature, that exists outside the control of IT, creating new challenges for security teams. In this new world, IT needs to track sensitive corporate data in third-party SaaS apps, and ensure that only the right people have the right level of access to it. In this whitepaper, we’ll explain ten steps on how to do that

Corporate data spreads across an ever-growing number of applications. Users (employees, contractors, partners, and customers) access those applications over a wide range of devices. Those devices take different forms: desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones, smartwatches. Each device may use a different operating system. The locations from where people access your data can be on-premises or off, and in any number of places around the globe. Data, users, apps, devices, locations—the sheer number of permutations and combinations is mind-boggling. This complex nature of today’s IT environment opens security gaps and exposes your business to undue risk. To illustrate, try to envision all the permutations and possible entry points for risk in your organization. Imagine that you have 400 users, each using 25 apps. When you multiply those together, that’s 10,000 potential access permissions to manage. Access permissions change as users come and go, roles change, new apps are added, and

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has arrived. Every company doing business with European customers — regardless of location — must make considerable governance, people, process, and technology changes to comply with the new rules. While companies have made progress, more work remains. To succeed, they must tackle key challenges, including data identification, mapping, and access management. Despite the work ahead, forward-looking businesses understand GDPR is an opportunity. This is a transformation for a data-savvy world, with the potential to yield enhanced customer and business benefits. Investment in solutions with data privacy, security, and compliance offerings that can protect data no matter where it’s stored — on-premises and in the cloud — can ease companies along their readiness journeys and help them achieve and sustain compliance from May 25, 2018, and onward

The financial industry is experiencing a significant challenge when it comes to maintaining and establishing trust in its relationships with clients. Customers battered by the constant barrage of publicized data incursions and security breaches are highly sensitized to those signs in their own dealings. They find it difficult to accept any disruption in either their business or their personal financial activities and are easily frightened away from organizations that they perceive as risky.

Today’s security appliances and agents must wait until malware reaches the perimeter or endpoint before they can detect or prevent it. OpenDNS arrests attacks earlier in the kill chain. Enforcing security at the DNS layer prevents a malicious IP connection from ever being established or a malicious file from ever being downloaded. This same DNS layer of network security can contain malware and any compromised system from exfiltrating data. Command & control (C2) callbacks to the attacker’s botnet infrastructure are blocked over any port or protocol. Unlike appliances, the cloud service protects devices both on and off the corporate network. Unlike agents, the DNS layer protects every device connected to the network — even IoT. It is the easiest and fastest layer of security to deploy everywhere.

In the last few years we have seen a rapid evolution of data. The need to embrace the growing volume, velocity and variety of data from new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) has been accelerated. The ability to explore, store, and manage your data and therefore drive new levels of analytics and decision-making can make the difference between being an industry leader and being left behind by the competition. The solution you choose must be able to: • Harness exponential data growth as well as semistructured and unstructured data • Aggregate disparate data across your organization, whether on-premises or in the cloud • Support the analytics needs of your data scientists, line of business owners and developers • Minimize difficulties in developing and deploying even the most advanced analytics workloads • Provide the flexibility and elasticity of a cloud option but be housed in your data center for optimal security and compliance

A Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) audit can be passed by complying with the bare minimum requirements, but that falls short of the purpose of it: to secure and protect cardholder data. Meeting compliance is about passing an audit at a specific point in time and also maintaining it after the audit. The real challenge is sustaining continuous compliance to avoid costly breaches at the hands of motivated and skilled adversaries. Indeed, as detailed in Verizon's "2017 Payment Security Report," nearly half (45%) of the companies examined between 2015 and 2016 were not fully PCI DSS compliant.

Health care is often considered a lucrative business for those involved in waste, fraud and abuse. Today’s ever-accelerating technology changes make data related to health care, medical and financial issues even more attractive (and profitable) to cybercriminals who sell medical identities and siphon money from stolen financial records. Risks are exponentially increased because of organizations’ reliance on electronic systems for mission-critical functions. According to 61% of respondents to the SANS 2014 State of Cybersecurity in Health Care Organizations survey, medical/health record systems are considered the most at-risk information asset among the 224 health care-related organizations represented in the survey.
