The General Data Protection Regulation, is a piece of legislation that was approved and put in to place by the European Parliament in April 2016. As European Law, it will fully take effect after a 2-year transition ending May 25th 2018. GDPR, replaces the previous Data Protection Directive (DPD), adopted in 1995, and will in the UK, replace and strengthen the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA). One of the initial differences between GDPR and DPD, is that GDPR is a regulation not a directive; as a regulation, no additional enabling legislation will have to be passed by governments of member states. Redstor have the ability to give insight into the data organisations have on their networks, advise on best practice to protect data and then implement strategies around backup, archiving and disaster recovery. Data is searchable through an intuitive console making compliance simple and achievable for all organisations protecting data through the Backup Pro Platform.

DB2 is a proven database for handling the most demanding transactional workloads. But the trend as of late is to enable relational databases to handle analytic queries more efficiently by adding an inmemory column store alongside to aggregate data and provide faster results. IBM's BLU Acceleration technology does exactly that. While BLU isn't brand new, the ability to spread the column store across a massively parallel processing (MPP) cluster of up to 1,000 nodes is a new addition to the technology. That, along with simpler monthly pricing options and integration with dashDB data warehousing in the cloud, makes DB2 for LUW, a very versatile database.

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) represents a significant step change for data protection across EU member states. The EU GDPR also brings with it serious implications for organisations who suffer a breach. People will always make mistakes – and in busy and stressful workplaces such as banks and insurance firms the likelihood of this increases. Without the right processes and technologies in place to help avoid mistakes, sensitive client information remains at risk. This white paper provides financial services organisations with a four-step process to ensure compliance.

In its most basic form, a runbook is an electronic or physical document that lists detailed procedures for handling every expected situation that an IT system may experience. Based on changes in system condition, incoming requests and other factors, system administrators determine which procedures to run and when to run them. Runbook procedures often include complex decision trees that indicate specific steps to follow depending on answers to pre-established questions. Administrators are responsible for performing the appropriate steps of the procedure in painstaking detail, often by manually issuing commands to components and sub-systems. Primitive runbooks are notoriously inefficient, inflexible and error prone, sometimes relying on undocumented steps known to just a few staff members. Yet, if a critical step is missed or an incorrect command is entered, the entire process may be negatively impacted.

Enterprises of all sizes are challenged to effectively provide secure access to a rapidly growing mosaic of cloud, on-premise and mobile applications. Whether sanctioned by the enterprise IT group of purchased by departmental shadow IT organizations, individually provisioned applications present a great management burden with multiple negative operational effects: • Time and money wasted by manual on-and off-boarding, and lost passwords. • Security risk from weak, easy-to-remember passwords, as well as from system access by former employees whose credentials are not promptly revoked. • Lack of visibility into who accesses which application, and from where. As a result, enterprises and users encounter a range of obstacles that prevent them from securely operating at speed. At best, users who clamor for access to applications are inconvenienced when they don’t get access quickly enough, or not at all.
