Traditional business models are getting shattered by subscriptions. No one can doubt the new services economy is flourishing. The cloud, mobile, digital, connected devices, globalization - all these things have had a hand in reshaping business and powering new business models. Companies today are wrapping service-based business models and while this shift adds new complexities for finance and has major revenue recognition implications, it also gives finance leaders huge opportunities to become bigger value creators for their business and make a stronger impact on enterprise-wide strategies - not financials.

In the digital era, businesses in every industry are becoming technology companies. New business models such as “product as a service” (in which traditional manufacturers and distributors are driving new revenue streams by integrating software-based services into their offerings) and new operational models, such as collaboration, social business, and mobile platforms, mean that nearly every company is deriving at least part of its revenue from cloudbased solutions. So, why are so many of these new cloud solution providers building their businesses on shaky foundations? The truth is, when your business is based in the cloud, you need more than on-demand leased compute and storage capacity. You need a cloud that is enterprise-grade, secure, and resilient. Equally important—and overlooked by too many cloud solution providers—you need a cloud platform that is able to grow your business into the future, supporting next-generation functionality like Artificial Intelligence (AI). No matter wh

FICO, a financial services provider, wanted to address small-to-medium business (SMB) and midmarket customer requests for solutions without on-premise installation. To transition from an on-premise model to a cloud- and services-based infrastructure, FICO chose to build an OpenStack® cloud using Red Hat® solutions, including OpenShift by Red Hat and Red Hat Enterprise Linux® OpenStack Platform. As a result, FICO generated US$10 million in sales to new customers, reduced solution time to market by 50%, and lowered storage and overall infrastructure costs.

Today’s factory intelligence is the collaborative orchestration of people and machines. By blending intelligence from multiple sources, factories are truly becoming smarter. But it’s not just about the machines. Rather, people are improving machines through a true partnership that turns human experience into smarter machines. This shift marks a re?orientation to a thought process that’s more natural to people. After decades of working with 2D blueprints, designs and dimensioned drawings, factory intelligence leverages 3D models that are easier for people to comprehend and use. Plus, many people find more satisfaction in intelligent factory work that challenges them to manage relationships among machines, rather than repeatedly working on a single piece in a line. In smarter factories, people direct machines to adjust for shifting customer requirements and market demands.

"Analysts predict that soon, half of all new IT service desk tools will be adopted as cloud-based services. While shifting to an on-demand model can be a complex decision that requires organizations to carefully assess the potential impact on business operations, a growing number of companies are clearly finding the move worthwhile. This paper explores the reasons for the rapid growth of cloud-based IT service management (ITSM) solutions and the benefits they offer for enterprises. Topics include: • The cost savings companies can achieve by deploying ITSM solutions via the cloud, which allows better management and optimization of consumption and costs. • Improved alignment between IT and business, as self-service, a service catalog, collaboration, and mobility help IT expose and provide its services more effectively. • The ability to integrate cloud and on-premise solutions to leverage existing systems while leveraging new innovations via the cloud. • The advantages of cloud-base

In today's business environment, organizations of all sizes are struggling to maintain the advanced IT capabilities they need to be competitive while reining in cost and complexity. Shifting to off-premise hosted models, such as software-as-a-service (SaaS) and business process outsourcing, is a common activity undertaken to manage costs. One of the main challenges businesses face in adopting cloud and SaaS delivery models is the task of synchronizing data and integrating the multitude of systems already in datacenters with new cloud-based applications, not to mention within the cloud itself. Traditionally, this required organizations to leverage existing tools as well as custom development. This white paper looks at how two enterprises encountered problems with cloud integration and adopted IBM WebSphere Cast Iron to solve their immediate problems and extend use more broadly across their organizations.
