Most people define mobile devices – smartphones and tablets – as those running a mobile-optimized operating system (e.g. iOS, Android, Windows Phone). There’s a trend emerging, however, in which traditional mobile devices are gaining functionality typically associated with PCs. At the same time, PCs are being architected more like mobile devices — an interbreeding of species, if you will. The iPad Pro, for example, has a keyboard. With Windows 10, phones and tablets can run “Universal” apps that also run on PCs. Windows 10 also has application-layer sandboxing, code-signing, and an app store with apps pre-vetted by Microsoft. In certain configurations (i.e. enterprise-managed devices), a laptop running Windows 10 has a security architecture that looks strikingly similar to a smartphone or tablet.

This report examines enterprise security threats for iOS and Android. While Android has higher consumer market share, iOS commands more market share in the enterprise, accounting for 72% of enterprise mobile activations in Q1 2015 compared to Android’s 26% activation share1 . The perception that iOS is more secure has helped drive its enterprise adoption, but this perception comes largely from security trends observed in the consumer space. Android, with a more open mobile platform and 81% global market share2 , predictably invites more broad-based attacks than iOS. When it comes to iOS and Android in the enterprise, however, both need threat protection because at a fundamental level both platforms are subject to similar vulnerabilities and attack methods. iOS attacks may be relatively uncommon today, but they have happened and can occur. Moreover, enterprises increasingly rely on iOS app-distribution methods that forgo Apple’s app-review and they face the risk that attackers will cont

There are three key statements enterprises must hear in order to move forward in protecting corporate resources from leakage and attack: The perimeter has disappeared. Legacy security technologies do not work. Devices cannot be trusted. A new security architecture is needed to protect data as employees and devices connect to corporate resources in the cloud, all over the world. That architecture is post-perimeter security. Read this whitepaper to: Learn why perimeter security is not longer viable Understand the new, necessary security architecture: post-perimeter security Learn how phishing attacks are thwarting traditional firewalls Find out how Lookout enables enterprises to embrace post-perimeter security in their own environments

With breaches today often going undetected for months or years, many organizations must now accept the very real possibility that intruders have already compromised their systems, regardless of the organization’s security posture. Today, compromises are measured in minutes and the speed of response is measured in days. Enterprises the world over are realizing that to close the gap, they need to evolve their security operations from being a largely reactive unit (waiting for alerts that indicate a threat) to being proactively on the hunt for new attacks that have evaded detection. When an incident does occur, the speed of your response will dictate the extent to which you can minimize the impact. In the case of a malicious attack, it takes on average over 7 months to identify a breach, and nearly two and a half additional months to contain the incident. Every second counts, and while the clock is ticking, the cost of the breach is rapidly increasing as well. Breaches that take over 3

Companies are facing massive cyber security challenges – many of which are rooted in the endpoint. In fact, according to IDC, 70% of successful breaches begin at the endpoint. If you are a McAfee customer, and still have breaches in your endpoint security, then something isn’t working. Perhaps you’re struggling to prevent advanced attacks, or your security team may be burdened by maintaining overly complex policies. You and your end users may even be facing performance issues. If you are experiencing any of these challenges, then your endpoint security products may actually be creating more problems than they solve. Ask yourself these questions for a cybersecurity reality check.

As customers demand and expect more of a digitized experience, the scale and volume of secure data that’s being transmitted across the network is increasing exponentially. At the same time, across the APAC region high digital connectivity, contrasted with low cybersecurity awareness, growing cross-border data transfers and weak regulations have made this data a global target. The growth in the “as-a-service” nature of the cybercrime marketplace is also fueling an increase in the number of traditional crime groups and individuals drawn into cyber offending. New sources of vulnerability from mobile, BYOD, CYOD, web-services and IoT devices are further broadening the cyber threat landscape with ever-more sophisticated forms of malware and DDoS attacks. Download the IDC Report to get some tips on how to stay protected against cybercrime.

Integrated on-premises solutions offer tight control and flexibility, but can be quickly overwhelmed by a large volumetric attack. Managed cloudbased services deliver protection from those largeattacks, but can be expensive if used for all traffic, all the time. By using a combination of on-premises security devices and a cloud-based scrubbing service to handle volumetric attacks, organizations maintain control, while spinning up cloud-protection services as needed to handle the largest volumetric floods.

As signaling and scrubbing technology evolve (and as your solutions become more and more adaptable), DDoS attacks will become less effective and less attractive to would-be adversaries. The time will soon come when a 1 Tb attack from an IoT botnet will seem like a mere annoyance, rather than a catastrophic event—if you even notice it at all. So how do you get there faster? Plan ahead by designing a defense in-depth DDoS strategy and partner with a trusted security provider to handle the large attacks. Upfront preparation will pay off when the threat of DDoS attacks no longer keeps you up at night.

With an estimated 500,000 'Internet of Things' devices using default security credentials it's little wonder that the recent Mirai botnet's DDoS attack was able to cause such widespread disruption. But it isn't just the average home-user that's at risk. Organizations like yours are being targeted with bespoke malware in order to compromise your network and add your servers and devices to malicious botnets. This paper explains why these attacks are so successful, how a typical infection takes place and what security systems your organization should have in place to defend against botnet proliferation.

Until recently, security teams for organizations in many industries believed they didn’t need to worry about DDoS attacks, but the latest data from the Verizon 2017 Data Breach Investigations Report indicates that businesses of all sizes in nearly every industry run the risk of being attacked.¹ IoT devices are increasingly compromised, recruited into botnets, and offered up by their creators as for-hire DDoS services. Additionally, there are numerous DDoS tools and services that are easily accessible and easy to use, even for the untechnical novice.
