In recent years, Europe has seen a real boost in the building of renewable generation capacity. Germany is a notable example of a country with significant growth in renewables. As shown in Figure 1 below, since 2000, the average annual growth of installed capacity in Germany has been more than 15 percent, reaching 18-20 percent between 2009 and 2010. For the most part, favorable conditions for the development of renewables have been caused by support schemes, previously based on feed-in-tariffs and competitive auctions. Now the country has reached a point where renewables account for around 53 percent of installed capacity and around 36 percent share in total electricity demand, already exceeding the 2020 target of 35 percent. DevOps (short for development and operations), like most new approaches, is only a buzzword for many people. Everyone talks about it, but not everyone knows what it is. In broad terms, DevOps is an approach based on lean and agile principles in which business owners and the development, operations, and quality assurance departments collaborate to deliver software in a continuous manner that enables the business to more quickly seize market opportunities and reduce the time to include customer feedback. Indeed, enterprise applications are so diverse and composed of multiple technologies, databases, end-user devices, and so on, that only a DevOps approach will be successful when dealing with these complexities. Opinions differ on how to use it, however. Some people say that DevOps is for practitioners only; others say that it revolves around the cloud. IBM takes a broad and holistic view and sees DevOps as a business-driven software delivery approach  — an approach that takes a new or en

MDM can add value to the business in many different ways. It most often does so indirectly, as an enabler for other business and IT initiatives. Some of these areas of potential benefit support shorter-term or tactical efforts at helping the business operate more efficiently — that is, they help to reduce the cost bases to "run the business." Some benefit areas of MDM are related more to helping users "grow the business." That is, they help to increase the revenue and market share within a given business model or framework. Yet other areas of opportunity fall into the "transform the business" arena — for example, allowing customer support representatives to perform inside sales activities enabled by trusted customer and product master data.

Accounts Payable is a fundamental activity for nearly all businesses. Pick any enterprise and you can bet there is an AP function at the heart of financial operations. The obligation to pay off short-term debt is one that every company must satisfy. But more than that, the process to do it must be efficient and productive. If you get behind on your obligations you risk missing important financial discounts, defaulting with creditors, and damaging your reputation with suppliers and stakeholders. CFOs face the challenges associated with Accounts Payable…and it’s easy to lose sleep. As other areas of business and commerce have become more and more paperless, the accounts payable process in most organizations remains mired in paper copies and manual workflow. The result is an often costly and people-intensive process that leaves companies vulnerable to competitors and financial executives with a growing unease over the inherent inefficiencies.

In June 2017, the Fed increased its short-term rate by a quarter point, the third time in six months that it had done so. At the time, the Fed said it would likely raise the rate again by the end of 2017, but industry watchers now speculate that the agency may hold off doing so until sometime in 2018.

While simple fixes may cost a few thousand dollars, lost revenue from equipment failures can run into the millions of dollars in lost productivity and replacement costs. There can be longer-term impacts, too, if the downtime inhibits a manufacturer’s ability to meet customer needs. That’s why it is important for companies to think about lubrication and equipment maintenance holistically, recognizing that short term cost savings may be leading to bigger, preventable expenses over the long term. Cheaper oil, for example, may save money initially, but it requires more frequent changes and provides less protection to the equipment, which could shorten component life. For many companies, the short-term savings simply aren’t worth the longterm cost risk. “Some companies don’t realize that they may be able to reduce their overall maintenance costs significantly by spending more up front on better quality lubricants,” Saffell says. “Their equipment may last longer and they are likely to see
