Part 2 in our Partnering with Certainty Webinar Series, "Customer Demands at the Edge." In our last webinar, we discussed how trends & technologies like IoT and its many applications have helped drive an Always On, Always Connected mentality that has completely evolved customer experience standards. These demands are driving a need for resiliency in local edge environments, meaning compute & storage capacity is now coming back on premise for many applications – especially in industries like Healthcare, Retail, Finance, and Education. In other words, this highly distributed access layer is now becoming a compute layer – one that is mission-critical to delivering a flawless (or at least acceptable) customer experience. These environments are often make-shift wiring closets (janitor’s closets, back rooms, etc.) with no dedicated IT staff per each location. More than ever before, Healthcare, Retail, Finance, and Education customers are turning to solution providers to be that “dedicated IT staff” to find and fix problems before they start, so that the customer (or patient, or student) experience they’re working to provide remains a good one. APC by Schneider Electric has: Connected Products making it easy to remotely monitor your customers’ environments Including our NEW Smart-UPS with APC SmartConnect – the industry’s first cloud-connected UPS! A Practical Guide to IDF/MDF Infrastructure Implementation Once relegated to early adopters and casual home users, VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) has matured. An essential element of any unified communications (UC) system, it is now the standard method of voice communication in business, education, government and healthcare. If your organization has not already migrated to VoIP, the question is not so much if it will, but when. Cost is the primary driver, since the data network performs double duty by carrying voice traffic as well. VoIP also offers capabilities that far exceed traditional phone systems, with unified communication platforms promising to integrate messaging, mobility, collaboration, relationship management, zoned security, intelligent call routing, disaster recovery, video, teleconferencing, status updates and other advanced features. The transition to VoIP presents a number of challenges, including assessing the ability of your network to handle not only additio

Voice Over IP (VoIP) deployments can cause unexpected or unplanned power and cooling requirements in wiring closets and wiring rooms. Most wiring closets do not have uninterruptible power available, and they do not provide the ventilation or cooling required to prevent equipment overheating. Understanding the unique cooling and powering needs of VoIP equipment allows planning for a successful and cost effective VoIP deployment. This paper explains how to plan for VoIP power and cooling needs, and describes simple, fast, reliable, and cost effective strategies for upgrading old facilities and building new facilities.

Cooling for IT wiring closets is rarely planned and typically only implemented after failures or overheating occur. Historically, no clear standard exists for specifying sufficient cooling to achieve predictable behavior within wiring closets. An appropriate specification for cooling IT wiring closets should assure compatibility with anticipated loads, provide unambiguous instruction for design and installation of cooling equipment, prevent oversizing, maximize electrical efficiency, and be flexible enough to work in various shapes and types of closets. This paper describes the science and practical application of an improved method for the specification of cooling for wiring closets.

Many of the mysteries of equipment failure, downtime, software and data corruption, are the result of a problematic supply of power. There is also a common problem with describing power problems in a standard way. This white paper will describe the most common types of power disturbances, what can cause them, what they can do to your critical equipment, and how to safeguard your equipment, using the IEEE standards for describing power quality problems.

VoIP is rapidly becoming the standard for voice communications in business, government, education, government and healthcare. It offers capabilities that far exceed traditional phone systems, with unified communication platforms promising to integrate messaging, mobility, collaboration, relationship management, teleconferencing and other advanced features. The transition to VoIP presents a number of challenges like the need to install new equipment in the MDF and the IDFs dispersed throughout your organization's network/telecom wiring closets. Typical closet designs can't handle the increased wattage and heat output of the PoE switches used to power IP phones. In this white paper you'll learn: • The basics of VoIP migration and implementation • What issues to consider when upgrading network/telecom wiring closets for VoIP • What cost-effective solutions are available to power and protect a VoIP network wiring closet
