Business Intelligence (BI) has become a mandatory part of every enterprise’s decision-making fabric. Unfortunately in many cases, with this rise in popularity, came a significant and disturbing complexity. Many BI environments began to have a myriad of moving parts: data warehouses and data marts deployed on multiple platforms and technologies – each requiring significant effort to ensure performance and support for the various needs and skill sets of the business resources using the environment. These convoluted systems became hard to manage or enhance with new requirements. To remain viable and sustainable, they must be simplified. Fortunately today, we have the ability to build simpler BI technical environments that still support the necessary business requirements but without the ensuing management complexity. This paper covers what is needed to simplify BI environments and the technologies that support this simplification.

Workforce analytics is a very significant development in human resources. It promises the potential for deeper understanding of the ways workers contribute to organizational performance. However, workforce analytics is not just about analyzing data to reveal exciting insights; it also requires the active involvement of a firm’s workers if the potential of analytics is to be fully realized. Without active employee participation, workforce analytics efforts face at best, restricted data sources and data sets that are incomplete and at worst, the risk of damaging employee relations and, ultimately, productivity. This white paper summarizes recommendations that will encourage enthusiasm for workforce analytics and active employee participation, using the FORT (Feedback, Opt-in, Reciprocal, Transparent) framework. The FORT criteria could prove particularly useful in European countries. This is because the 1995 European Union Data Protection Directive, along with certain local legislative pr

In today’s highly distributed, multi-platform world, the data needed to solve any particular decision making need is increasingly likely to be found across a wide variety of sources. As a result, traditional manual approaches requiring prior collection, storage and integration of extensive sets of data in the analyst’s preferred exploration environment are becoming less useful. Data virtualization, which offers transparent access to distributed, diverse data sources, offers a valuable alternative approach in these circumstances.

Business leaders are eager to harness the power of big data. However, as the opportunity increases, ensuring that source information is trustworthy and protected becomes exponentially more difficult. If not addressed directly, end users may lose confidence in the insights generated from their data—which can result in a failure to act on opportunities or against threats. Information integration and governance must be implemented within big data applications, providing appropriate governance and rapid integration from the start. By automating information integration and governance and employing it at the point of data creation, organizations can boost confidence in big data. A solid information integration and governance program must become a natural part of big data projects, supporting automated discovery, profiling and understanding of diverse data sets to provide context and enable employees to make informed decisions. Threats to your digital assets are everywhere. They’re constant. So you build defenses to keep them out. But like a carpenter framing a new addition to a house, you want to regularly step back from working on the details for a full view of your work. Do the enterprise security measures you’ve built do a complete job of protecting against intrusions? Or have you left any gaps that allow bad actors an easy way in? When you check all the possibilities, you might be surprised.

Digital transformation (DX) is the continuous process by which enterprises adapt to or drive disruptive change by leveraging digital competencies, such as harnessing sensor data or using location, customer profile, and a mobile app to make shopping recommendations. DX reshapes the organization's culture where required; leverages existing processes, systems, and assets; and creates net-new digital capabilities as needed. With DX, there is the need to embrace new business models and new architectures and technologies that will help an enterprise with customer-facing innovation as well as transition existing systems, processes, organization structure, and relationships to support the transformation.

The bank wanted to modernize its global data center core and edge networks to move to the next stage of its private cloud journey. The bank has long recognized the advantages of server virtualization, and it wanted to move more aggressively to a software-defined data center. The bank was virtualizing all services, including compute, storage, and network, to gain greater business flexibility and deliver cost savings. But first, it needed an elastic, flexible, and production ready network to connect its data centers. The bank wanted a dynamically scalable network to interconnect its data centers in Europe, Asia, and North America, so that it could move toward a fully automated, self provisioned cloud. The global network needed to deliver performance at scale for the company’s highly virtualized resources, while also supporting integration of legacy assets into its software-defined data centers.
