The Internet of Things (IoT) unleashes valuable business insights through data that’s gathered at every level of a retail organization. With IoT and data analytics, retailers now have the capability to gather insight into customer behavior, offer more personalized experiences, achieve better inventory accuracy, create greater supply chain efficiencies, and so much more. But with data comes great risk. A recent report by security firm Thales and 451 Research found that 43 percent of retailers have experienced a data breach in the past year, with a third reporting more than one breach.1 Intel® technology-based gateways and Asavie, a provider of next-gen enterprise mobility management and IoT connectivity solutions, offer a security connectivity solution that minimizes the effort and cost to businesses to ensure safety from cybersecurity attacks. In addition, the Intel/Asavie IoT solution provides retailers with a solid basis to build their smart, connected projects:

The WannaCry ransomware attack in May 2017 crippled the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) and disrupted a range of organizations across 150 countries. Despite being a relatively unsophisticated attack, WannaCry was able to make such a global impact due to preventable vulnerabilities that had largely gone unaddressed. There were many more attacks in 2017, including high-profile breaches at Uber and Equifax, where heeding cyber-security recommendations may have reduced the impact and fallout. The scale and sophistication of cyber-attacks is not slowing down – ranging from phishing scams to cryptocurrency-based cyber-attacks, to statesponsored attacks on industrial control systems. These attacks present an ever growing challenge and serve as a reminder that organizations cannot afford to be complacent in the face of cyber threats. We’re living in a time when cyberattacks are a matter of when, not if, and security professionals must focus on mitigating their extent and damage.

The current era in cyber security is characterized by three fundamental challenges: the complexity of the enterprise network and connected infrastructure, the speed of newage attacks, and the strain of overwhelmed incident responders. In many ways, the expansion of networks and continual adoption of new technologies - from cloud services to the Internet of Things - has expanded the attack surface and introduced new entry-points through which attackers can gain a foothold. This, combined with the ready availability of exploit kits on the Dark Web, has led to the ‘vicious circle of the SOC’, where incident responders are so busy fire-fighting that they rarely have time to implement the critical patches that would prevent the problem at source. As security teams struggle to keep up with the rising volume of routine attacks, a new generation of cyberthreat has also emerged, characterized in large part by fast-moving threats that make an impact well before humans have time to respond. Whether you're focused on public-facing websites or your company's assets and users, as someone who cares about digital security, your life is dominated by these trends that characterize the state of all things security in 2019: Attacks are growing, evolving, and becoming more sophisticated. And the types of attacks we see are proliferating. How do you protect your crown jewels when the castle has no walls? The answer is at the edge. When you deploy security at the edge, you are protecting your changing assets closer to the attack itself and moving digital experiences closer to users. In essence, you're deploying a single pane of glass, an extension of your infrastructure, that sits between you - your users, your digital experiences - and the always-changing nature of today's digital environment.

Digital security has never taken on greater urgency. Today we live in a fundamentally connected ecosystem where we increasingly work, play, and indeed live most of our lives online. Whether we are enterprise users or endpoint consumers, our digital experiences are increasingly delivered to us on our connected devices - wherever we are, whenever we want them. For InfoSec professionals, this interconnected ecosystem is wreaking havoc with the idea of "the perimeter." In fact, the perimeter as we know it no longer exits. The attack surface is always shifting and continues to disperse across a wider area. At the same time, attacks continue to grow in size and volume, and are increasingly targeted. No longer can you secure the perimeter and trust that nothing will get in or out. What you need to deploy and manage is being redefined right before your eyes, with or without you. You need to take security to the edge.

Customers have grown accustomed to high speeds and reliable connectivity. One second of network delay when accessing website, mobile app, or application service can increase your bounce rate and even decrease your customer’s trust in your brand. The typical business pain points per the above scenario are always like: Latency – While, latency problems caused by geographic distance are impossible to solve on the public Internet; Availability – Packet loss and complaints from customers can prevent you from increasing your user base; Cost - The growth of your user base and your business needs both outpace your IT budget. Security - Connections over the public Internet are vulnerable to DDoS attacks and other threats. This whitepaper describes: • Challenges that Magic Video faced before implementing Alibaba Cloud’s solutions • How Alibaba Cloud’s solutions help Magic Video build a global hybrid enterprise network, accelerate content delivery of the application, and maximize bandwidth?

Security leaders across all industries face mounting challenges. Cyberattacks are continually growing in volume, complexity, and sophistication, and incident response (IR) teams are pushed to the limit of their time, skill, and resources. Additionally, the average Security Operation Center (SOC) uses more than 75 different security tools – making full visibility nearly impossible and integrating those tools challenging as well.

The velocity of technology infrastructure change continues to accelerate, putting serious stress on Security Operations (SecOps). This has forced security folks to face the fact that operations has never really been their forte. That’s a bit harsh, but denial never helps address problems. The evidence is fairly strong that most organizations are pretty bad at security operations. How many high-profile breaches could have been avoided if one of many alerts was acted upon? How many attacks were made possible by not having properly patched servers or infrastructure? How many successful compromises resulted from human error?

Two-thirds of all internally generated email sent is from employees communicating within an organization*. Yet most IT organizations only focus on inbound email when it comes to protecting against cyber-attacks. In doing so, they ignore the serious risks posed by internal and outbound emails and the actions of two at risk groups of users - the compromised and careless employee.
