Marketers can personalize interactions using information that spans complete anonymity to full authentication, with a middle range in which identified data may be used intermittently. The distinction between anonymous and authenticated hinges on personally identifiable information (PII)—information that can be used alone, in combination, or in context to contact an individual. This information includes unique and partial identifiers such as name, address, phone number, and email address, as well as financial, employment, or other data associated with an individual.

A big part of GDPR compliance will focus on how data is collected going forward. But a substantial emphasis will fall on the data businesses already hold. With many mainframes containing generations-old data, a manual data audit is completely unrealistic. That’s where CA comes in. CA Data Content Discovery enables organizations to find, classify and protect mission essential mainframe data—three valuable steps toward achieving GDPR compliance.

Personalization works. Brands know this. That’s why they use information like customer names, relevant content, and purchasing history to make consumers feel special. But is this enough for today’s empowered consumers? No—it still treats consumers as a small drop in a big bucket of generic marketing communications. It’s repetitive and stale. It’s simply not enough.

As every business decision-maker should now know, the E.U. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) enforcement date is coming. The GDPR will be enforced starting May 2018 and will apply to those collecting, storing or using the personal data of the residents of the European Union’s 28 member states. The Regulation changes requirements around protecting the personally identifiable information of over 500 million people, and occupies the minds of anyone around the world concerned with data protection. To better understand data decision-making, McAfee® commissioned Vanson Bourne to survey the views of 800 senior business professionals across eight countries around the world from a range of industry sectors.

Driving changes Car-sharing, ride-sharing and ride-hailing aren’t new. Uber and other personal mobility services have redefined how people move from place to place. And now these services are beginning to redefine traditional car ownership itself. As people move from one vehicle to another, their personal information and preferences need to follow them, so the car they use feels like their own. Blockchain is defined as a shared, immutable ledger, and it can address many of the challenges that new types of personal mobility present.

Financial services organizations operate under a host of regulatory standards. This makes sense, as the assets and information managed by these firms are valuable, sensitive, and targeted by sophisticated cyber attackers daily. Compounding these challenges is the large volume of personally identifiable information (PII) that financial organizations handle regularly. PII is subject to many compliance regulations, notably the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which regulates not only the processing of personal data, including PII, relating to individuals in the EU, for also any organization that processes personal data of EU residents. For US banking consumers, Section 5 (Unfair or Deceptive Acts or Practices) of the Federal Trade Commission Act and numerous state regulations enforce basic consumer protections, which financial organizations must also uphold.

There’s an alarming digital divide within many companies. Marketers are developing nimble software to give customers an engaging, personalized experience, while IT departments remain focused on the legacy infrastructure. The front and back ends aren’t working together, resulting in appealing websites and apps that don’t quite deliver. We’ve arrived at this misalignment for understandable reasons. Previously, most chief information officers (CIOs) were hired to digitize and bring order to companies’ internal systems and processes. They saw websites as marketing channels and were happy to let chief marketing officers (CMOs) oversee that province of technology. They had, and still have, plenty to do just to keep internal operations running smoothly. Marketers soon got into the habit of developing not just content, but also software programs to better reach and transact with customers. But now that websites and apps are becoming cornerstones of the business, the stakes are too high to al

If your IT organization is like most, you are stretched thin to support your developers as they create multicloud-native applications that they deploy across public and private clouds. The cyberattacks of 2017 proved more numerous, sophisticated, and ruthless than in years past. Threat actors, armed with knowledge stolen from the CIA and tools lifted from the NSA, demonstrated an elevated level of proficiency. WannaCry and NotPetya, two prominent threats from last year, successfully exploited these stolen assets in their assault on systems worldwide. As 2017 progressed, new opportunities developed in ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS), opening the gates of malware-for-profit to everyone. Advancements in fileless attacks provided new ways for threats to hide from once reliable detection methods. Malware features such as polymorphism continued to play a powerful role in evading traditional defenses. The victims of cybercrime ranged from private businesses to the fundamental practices of democracy. France and the United States saw significant data breaches during their recent presidential elections. Several high-profile companies lost their customers’ personally identifiable information to cyberattacks, blemishing their brands and costing them untold millions in recovery operations. This report contains an overview of the threat trends and malware families Cylance's customers faced in 2017. This information is shared with the goal of assisting security practitioners, researchers, and individuals in our collective battle against emerging and evolving cyberthreats.

For most companies, the Human Resources department has a long history of guarding sensitive employee data. Rows of beige file cabinets line a back closet where only those with a key and knowledge of the filing system have access to the personal information of countless employees. The greatest risk to this data has always been fire or water damage, but that’s quickly changing with the emergence of online data storage.
